Tamarac Park

The third park installed in The Woodlands, Tamarac Park has been updated a number of times over the years, most recently with a revamping of its wheel friendly area. Though the tri-fountains in one of the two ponds at Tamarac Park are visible from Woodlands Parkway, the park entrance is off of North Millbend Drive. In anticipation of the transition of The Woodlands to The Woodlands Township, and as its last official act, The Woodlands Community Association approved the use of its leftover funds to build a dog friendly area at Tamarac Park. Tucked into the historic location of Grogan's sawmill, the large trees offer plenty of shade for dogs to play off-leash. According to “The Woodlands The Inside Story of Creating a Better Hometown,” (Roger Galatas January 2004) One of the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company’s many mills operated near what is today Lamar Elementary School. In fact, the pond located a short distance away at Tamarac Park and visible from Woodlands Parkway, served as a mill pond. The book goes on to say that the workers would cut down trees, donkeys would drag the trees to rail cars, which were then transported to the mill. The logs would soak in the mill pond prior to being cut.
