Karate
Through Martial Arts training with United Studios of Self Defense's black belt instructor Vincent Ness, students ages 6 and older will learn self-discipline, confidence, increased coordination and focus. No prior experience is required, and students can expect to see skill and technique development in just one month of weekly classes. Classes will meet on Wednesdays at the Rec Center at Rob Fleming, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. Choose your session: June 6 - 27, July 2 - 23, or August 8 - 29. Fee: $60 per month for residents, $70 per month for non-residents.
Fury Sluggers
Held on Tuesdays at the Alden Bridge Sports Park, Little sluggers ages 7 - 10 will learn the fundamentals of baseball including hitting and pitching from a professional coach. Participants must bring their own mitt and bat. Classes held June 5 - 26; July 10 - 31; from 11:00 - 11:55 AM, and again August 7 - 28 from 5:00 - 5:55 PM. Fee: $75 for residents, $85 for non-residents.
YOUTH FENCING
Fencing - Fencing is an Olympic sport enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels worldwide. Kids ages 7 and older are invited to join instructors Delfina Perka, a member of the 1980 Polish Olympic Team, and Albert Peters, former head coach of fencing at Cornell University, to learn footwork, technical instruction and bouting. In the first month, all equipment will be provided. Choose to attend once, twice, or three times (for musketeers, intermediates / advanced) each week at the Rec Center at Bear Branch. FEE: 1x/wk: $100 per month for residents, 2x/wk: $125 per month for residents, 3x/wk: $140 per month for residents for musketeers and intermediate/advanced participants; 1x/wk: $145 per month for residents, 2x/wk: $165 per month for residents for recreational participants. There is an additional $10 non-resident fee for all levels.
YOUTH ARCHERY
TARGET ARCHERY - Exploring Archery is fun and perfect fit for archers of any age or ability wanting to get involved in the sport of target archery. If you are new to the sport of archery or a beginner archer looking for an introductory program to sign up for, Explore Archery is what you need to get started! You'll learn important skills like range safety, proper shooting form, and play exciting archery games. Explore Archery programs are taught by certified USA Archery Instructors of The Woodlands Township. Available Seasonally - Fall through Spring.
PERFORMING ARTS DANCE WITH CAROLINE BATSON
Baby Ballet - Toddlers ages 2½ - 4 will learn great pre-ballet technique and politeness while enhancing your child's imagination in this introduction to the wonderful world of dance, including proper dance technique, terminology and dance etiquette. Listening skills, sharing and waiting turns help little ballerinas in and outside of the dance class. Pink ballet slippers and tights, and black leotard, as well as hair in a bun are required. Tutus are okay! Classes held Wednesdays, June 20 - July 25 from 6:30 - 7:00 PM at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming. FEE: $80 per child for residents; $90 for non-residents.
Youth Little Flippers Gymnastics
Little ones ages 3 to 6 will learn mat based gymnastics and tumbling skills, in a 30-minute class that meets once per week. Classes will use mats, wedges, bars and beams, for an all-around first-time experience. This class is designed to begin the development of fine and gross motor skills, strength, flflexibility, balance, as well as basic tumbling and equipment skills and gymnastics terminology. Benefits of this class include the development of a strong work ethic and a focus on group participation for little ones, with lots of encouragement, smiles, and hugs! This class is a fun introductory experience. Attire: shorts, T-shirt, or gym pants. Classes held from 6:30 - 7:00 PM Mondays, June 4 - August 27, at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming. Fee: $65 per child per month for residents, $75 per child for non-residents.
Young Rembrandts: Cartooning
Encourage your child's enthusiasm for art and help develop his or her drawing skills with a Young Rembrandts drawing class. These cartoon drawing lessons will stoke your child's artistic fire. Children ages 7 - 12 will learn various animation techniques; in June - cartoon illustrations inspired by a tropical paradise including humorous parrot characters, fun grass skirts and a surfing sequence. July is all about the space program, where some adventurous chimps in space will visit the classroom. And in August, students will create cartoon illustrations inspired by funny animal expressions and a forest filled with ironic situations. Choose from three sessions at Rob Fleming Recreation Center; Saturdays, June 2 - 23, July 7 - 28, or August 4 - 25 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Fee: $69 per child for residents, $79 for non-residents.
Music Performance Academy
Group lessons that are facilitated once a week, one hour programs that are designed for kids from the age of 6 to 16, to develop their playing ability on Guitar, Drums, Keyboard and Singing. Play it Rights' method encompasses theory, sight reading, technique and playing ability on their chosen instrument. Held at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming, FEE: $95 per month for residents, $105 per month for non-resident
Musical Theater
Performing Arts Dance
Caroline Batson will be working with students ages 6 - 10 on jazz dance technique, voice and acting. Students will enjoy their favorite songs/dances plus acting from different musicals. Required attire: Black leotard, black jazz shoes, black capris or jazz pants, and hair in a bun. Class meets on Thursdays from 7:15 - 8:15 PM at the Bear Branch Rec Center, June 21 - July 26. Fee: $150 per child for residents, $160 for non-residents.
