Grogan's Mill Village

Village Neighborhood Grogan's Mill

  • Grogan's Mill Village
    • (1974) The Woodlands' first village, Grogan's Mill is the gateway to The Woodlands. Grogan's Mill opened in 1974 and is named after the original Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company (1917) that was previously operating on the land. Despite reduced profits throughout the Great Depression, Grogan-Cochran continued to replant, cut and ship timber in south Montgomery County right up through the 1950s. The land that had been used for timber production since the late 1800's yielded to the new community's progress.

    • George Mitchell purchased 2,800 acres from the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company with the vision to create a planned community in 1964. The Village opened with a celebratory flag rising and guest appearance by William Shatner (Captain Kirk of Star Trek fame) on Saturday, October 19, 1974. When opened, The Woodlands consisted of a few families living in Settlers Corner, a conference center and country club, the Information Center, the Wharf shopping area, 19 model homes, 50 apartments, three office buildings, and several recreation amenities, all in Grogan's Mill Village. There are now approximately 5,195 homes and 13,500 residents who call the Village of Grogan's Mill home. The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center, along with three distinctive golf courses, The Oaks, Panther Trail and The Woodlands Country Club's Tournament Course are all contained within Grogan's Mill.

Grogan's Mill Village is the first Village of The Woodlands, and is bordered by The Woodlands Town Center to the north, Interstate 45 to the east, the northern reaches of unincorporated Montgomery County commonly referred to as Spring to the south and the Village of Panther Creek to the west along the eastern shore of Lake Woodlands and East Shore.
